The GN Pro 9470 is member of a very exclusive headset club – the all-in-one headset. Few headsets are able to toggle so effortlessly between computer, office phone and mobile phone. However, it is important to note that the GN 9470 Pro or the Plantronics 700 series will not work with your mobile phone when outside of the office. They only connect within the office walls via the base station, not the actual headsets themselves. The Good

The GN Netcom 9470 offers an unparalleled array of features and wearing styles, so where do you start?

Is it the leading 10-hour talk time? How about Jabra’s 2-microphone noise blackout technology for exceptional noise cancelling? What about the amazing 150m reception range offered by the latest DECT 6.0 technology? And all this underlying the fact it connects to your mobile, computer and office phone at the same time. Finally there’s one headset for everything in and out of the office!

A little secret is… because the Jabra GN Pro9470 can connect to your computer it means that any music you have saved on your PC can also be listened to through the computer mode of the headset. Having some personal music to listen to quietly and discreetly is a great little bonus for staff. As soon as a call comes in and you pick it up, the music stops. When you hang up the call you simply touch the computer icon on screen and the music starts again. How cool is that?

And here’s a great safety feature: the Jabra Safe Tone technology allows this to headset be noise-at-work compliant. This protects users’ hearing by cutting off sound spikes and sudden loud noises. Set up is a breeze and it’s as simple as following the Smart Set-Up Wizard on the touch screen. Pull it out of the box and you’ll be using it in minutes. Simplicity itself!

The Not-So-Good

If you’re looking to wear the GN Pro 9470 as an over-the-ear headset for mobile phone use outside of the office, then this is not the product you need. The GN Pro 9470 is designed for in-office use with your mobile since it needs the base station to operate. However, the Jabra GN GO6470 is Bluetooth - not DECT 6.0 – and therefore will let you use your headset with your mobile anywhere.

The Verdict

For people looking for an all-in-one headset for the office, this is worth every cent. If you’re looking for an office, computer and on-the-go mobile headset then go directly to the Jabra 6470 and do not pass GO.

The only other headset worth considering (for office only use) that is similar to the GN 9470 is the Plantronics SAVI W740 – also with multiple wearing style options.

If you don’t need the mobile phone functionality then save your money and buy the very good Jabra Pro 9450. Or if you’re not a Jabra brand loyalist then the latest Sennheiser Office range is an absolute standout (DW Office, DW Pro 1 and the DW Pro 2).

How does this lifter work?

Designed for Plantronics wireless headsets, the GN1000 handset lifter connects under your phone’s hand piece like a robotic cradle.  When the phone rings, your headset will beep in your ear.  You simply hit the button on the side of your headset and this sends a signal to the robotic cradle to lift the hand piece up.  This then accepts the call and you start to talk through the headset To hang-up, you simply hit the button on your headset again and the cradle puts the hand piece back. In this way you can answer and hang up on calls away from your desk when using a wireless headset. Remember, however, that the lifter will not let you perform any other phone function like transfer or conference. It purely provides a convenient way to take calls from anywhere in the office without having to return to your desk.
