The GN GO 6470/Jabra GO 6470 is the best all-in-one headset on our site… bar none! The Sennheiser VMX Office looks great but is second-rate by comparison, and the top of the line Pro 9470 is really for “office only” applications as are the latest Plantronics SAVI W710, 720 and 740. Sure they all connect to office phone, computer and mobile but there is one big difference...

Only the Jabra GO 6470 (and the VMX office) allows you to use the headset outside the office for your mobile phone on the go. The others are limited to the confines of the office walls. It means you can literally have one headset for all your communication devices in your on the go lifestyle. When you’re in the office no matter which device rings you can answer any by simply hitting a touch screen, because you are connected to all devices simultaneously.

If you are in and out of the office and only want to choose one headset, this is it. If you bought a great mobile headset like the Voyager Pro you’d be up for around $100. Then when you factor in buying a good office computer headset (say for around $350) you’re at around the same money but then you have two headsets for everything – not one. The GN GO 6470 is the consummate all rounder and a great headset!

The Good

The GN Netcom GO 6470 is incredibly comfortable and lightweight, created with all-day wearing in mind. The headset is ultra compact and discreet, and because it’s designed for mobile phone use in the outside world, the noise cancelling is excellent (Jabra’s latest 2-microphone noise blackout technology). But unlike other Bluetooth headsets it also comes with an over-the-head wearing style if you prefer.

In the office the Jabra GO6470 will give you a phenomenal 100m reception range (exceptional for a Bluetooth device), and outside you’ll be able to roam 25m away from your mobile phone. There’s even a 100 hour standby time.

As a Bluetooth device the GN GO6470 will connect to any computer, iPad, iPhone, smart device or technology that is Bluetooth compatible. This means you can use it almost anywhere. Finally, there’s one headset for everything in and out of the office!

A little secret is… because the GN GO6470 can connect to your computer, it means that any music you have saved on your PC can also be listened to through the computer mode of the headset. Having some personal music to listen to quietly and discreetly is a great little bonus for staff. As soon as a call comes in and you pick up the call, the music stops. When you hang up the call you simply touch the computer icon on screen and the music starts again. How cool is that?

And here’s a great safety feature: Jabra Safe Tone technology allows the GN GO6470 headset to be noise-at-work compliant, protecting your hearing by cutting off sound spikes and sudden loud noises. Note the Jabra GO 6470 is not G616-compliant simply because you can turn this feature off, but it offers the ultimate protection when left on. Set-up is a breeze and it’s as simple as following the Smart Set-Up Wizard on the touch screen. Pull it out of the box and even the most technologically challenged among us will be using the GN GO6470 within minutes. It is that clever and that simple.

But remember, if you’re looking to answer calls away from your desk you’ll need to buy a remote lifter (GN 1000 lifter in the accessories tab. If you have a modern phone, give us a call to check compatibility).

The Not-So-Good

The limitations are not within the GN GO6470 headset per se, but more about Bluetooth technology in general. In an office, a Bluetooth device is never as good as a wireless DECT 6.0 technology. The range is shorter (though it’s still ample for 99% of buyers), and the talk time is never as long because the headsets are packaged in very compact designs to accommodate the mobile phone users.

So unless you need more than the 100m range and 6 hour talk time, you can ignore the previous paragraph. But if you do, either buy the GN Pro 9470 (for use with your mobile inside the office only) or buy 2 different headsets – one for your mobile and another for your computer/office.

Some people love taking the one headset in and out of the office, whereas other users don’t because they have Bluetooth car kits or modern cars that are Bluetooth-enabled already. If that’s the case, then save money and go for a computer/office headset like the Jabra Pro 9450 or any of the latest Plantronics SAVI W710, 720 or 740 - instead of the GN GO 6470.

The Verdict

For people looking for an all-in-one headset then the Jabra GO 6470 is worth every cent. If you don’t want to use it on the road but still want the 3-in-one flexibility then the GN Pro 9470 is a better office phone from a headset design, plus it has superior wireless DECT 6.0 technology, not Bluetooth. In this case you’d also put the Plantronics 700 series in the mix.

If you don’t need the mobile phone functionality at all then save your money and buy the very good Jabra Pro 9450 . Or if you’re not a Jabra brand loyalist then the latest Sennheiser Office range is an absolute standout (DW Office, DW Pro 1 and the DW Pro 2). If you want a Plantronics option then look to the SAVI WO200, SAVI WO300 or SAVI WO350).

How does this lifter work?

Designed for Plantronics wireless headsets, the GN1000 handset lifter connects under your phone’s hand piece like a robotic cradle.  When the phone rings, your headset will beep in your ear.  You simply hit the button on the side of your headset and this sends a signal to the robotic cradle to lift the hand piece up.  This then accepts the call and you start to talk through the headset To hang-up, you simply hit the button on your headset again and the cradle puts the hand piece back. In this way you can answer and hang up on calls away from your desk when using a wireless headset. Remember, however, that the lifter will not let you perform any other phone function like transfer or conference. It purely provides a convenient way to take calls from anywhere in the office without having to return to your desk.
